Hi, my name is Matej, and my passion is travel. I enjoy all kinds of travel but my real passion lies in exploration. I like to discover new places, travel to the unknown or experience the known places in a new way. I believe in authentic experiences, things that are beautiful, but unpretentious. My experience with traveling showed me that this Earth does not need any pretense or staged happenings to be beautiful. On the contrary, every minute and every hour, all around the planet the ordinary life of humans, animals, plants and natural forces creates extraordinary spectacles that are just waiting for the adventurous to be discovered and experienced.
I started what I would call more serious traveling during the university summer breaks. Me and my friends did camping road trips around Europe – France, Spain, Portugal and Italy. Somehow, the planning of the trip always fell on me and I discovered I like it a lot. Especially when it came to identifying some less known and less visited jewels along the way. Have you heard of Dune du Pilat, Capo Testa or Playa de las Catedrales? Later the trips started to move out of Europe, to Costa Rica, India, Borneo, Sri Lanka, Thailand and I was fully hooked on exploring this planet further.
Breakthrough trip to Indonesia
However, it was not until I decided to quit my job and travel for 6 months that I fully realized what I love most is adventurous travel and exploring the unknown or less visited places. I decided to spend the whole 6 months in Indonesia, moving place to place across Java, Bali, Lombok, Flores, Sulawesi, Moluccas, Papua and Kalimantan. In those six months, I visited 53 different islands. I realized that the most breathtaking places were the ones untouched by mass tourism.
Besides the white beaches, plentiful corals, stunning mountains and deep jungles, there is one more aspect you will not experience in touristic places. The mix of cultural shock and intense cordiality and humanness of people you meet there. As many of the adventures I went through are just meant to be shared, and due to the lack of information about how you can actually get to some very special places, I decided to start this blogging and travel planning website.
I like to experience life in its variety, I tremendously enjoy anything related to nature and ancient civilizations and I like to be active. That means while I travel I like hiking, diving, snorkeling, jungle trekking or just running around temples.
I usually do not prefer packaged trips, try to avoid tourist traps and I stay clear of all inclusive resorts. I prefer to travel everywhere on my own and arrange everything by myself, as far as it is possible. However, I also understand not everyone shares my tolerance of discomfort and after a week or two out of civilization, I also enjoy a nice hotel room. Therefore, if you decide to entrust me to plan your adventure, I will do it fully based on your interests and preferences.
